The Important Role of English in Children's Education
Nowadays, the English language holds greater importance in education than any other language.
Those who can easily read, write, and speak English find it easier to pursue their college education.
That is why parents mostly prefer to send their children to English-medium schools.
Despite attending English-medium schools, most children speak only broken English—often just for the sake of it—and also struggle academically.
There is only one reason for this: the English that teachers use in lessons is often beyond students' comprehension.
Children are accustomed to speaking and hearing Marathi or Hindi at home, so English is an unfamiliar language to them.
School teachers use this unfamiliar language to teach various subjects, which involve specific English terms that these children have never encountered or heard before.
They do not know the meanings of these words or how to read and write them. Consequently, despite studying hard, they struggle to grasp the material in various school subjects and fall behind academically.
There is only one solution to this: separate the instruction of English language skills—reading, writing, and listening—from the teaching of other school subjects.
Focused instruction solely on the English language will significantly enhance these children's ability to read, write, listen to, and comprehend English.
Once they grasp what is being said in English, everything taught by their school teachers becomes much easier to understand.
As a result, the children naturally become quicker learners in their studies.
